ANCOM HAS CHOSEN CISCO AND INTRAROM FOR AN INTEGRATED VOICE, VIDEO AND DATA SOLUTION
e-Finance magazine, June, Section: E-NETWORKING, Cristian Pavel
In 2008, the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) modernized its existing analogue telephone system by implementing a robust system integrating voice, video and data communications. The new solution, implemented by Intrarom, which almost totally includes Cisco products, involved the change of the present telephone nucleus at the central headquarters in Bucharest, as well as the replacement of the employees' telephones, with state of the art IP Cisco telephones.
ANCOM has county offices in each county seat and four regional divisions in large cities of the country: Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara and Iasi and we also need an efficient communication system for a good coordination of the activity between these offices. When we decided to change the system in order to adapt it to the needs of the new institution resulted from the merge of IGCTI and ANRCTI, we thought that the best solution which responds to the need of our institution is one which integrates voice, video and data communications", explained Puiu Chitu, network administrator at ANCOM.
The delivery of the equipment, as well as the installation and set-up thereof was performed by the Intrarom company, a Cisco Silver partner, which was also responsible for the training of the ANCOM team for the operation and features of the new system.
The implemented system aimed at enhancing the productivity and collaboration within ANCOM through the telephone facilities.
The solution is based on a MultiSite network model, with centralized call processing. Thus, aside from the central headquarters in Bucharest, the network also includes regional locations, in Timisoara, Cluj, Iasi and Bucharest.
The system is based on a redundant cluster made of two Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers version 6.1. This server is the core of the IP telephone solution, with the main role of processing calls and offering a high flexibility by creating a working environment which allows the full interaction of applications, of network devices and operating systems. The hardware platform chosen for the two servers was MCS 7825, running Linux as operating system.
Along with the implementation of the new telephone system, the numbering plan was also changed, being now based on a 4-digit format.
Another important facility offered by the cluster of Cisco servers is also Call Detailed Reports (CDR), allowing the analysis of calls made, as well as the duration thereof, organizing the search per user, interest period and type of call.
Cisco Unity Connection is another server used in the central headquarters. It is an integrating voice messaging solution easy to install and configure, which succeeds in offering scalability for up to 3.000 users.
Cisco Unified Meetingplace transarently integrates voice, video and web conference capacities, in order to facilitate efficient and quality distance meetings, reducing costs and ensuring a high security.
The headquarters outside connection was made via three El flows to the telephone operator supplying services to ANCOM. The integration was made through the Cisco 2851 router, ensuring the connection of existing analogous fax machines, but also for the possibility of replacing servers at the central headquarters for processing calls in case of loss of the connection with the central headquarters. As for the devices installed at users, Cisco 7945 and 7965 telephones were chosen, offering high resolution color screens as well as telephone book facilities. .
“According to Cisco, efficient public institutions are institutions in which information travels fast and safe, in real time, facilitating the internal as well as external communication. Cisco communication technologies adopted by ANCOM allow this information flow, offering the employees the possibility to access the resources they need to take fast decisions, by collaborative means. With this project ANCOM benefits of state of the art solutions, which confirm once more than Romania is firmly committed on the road to the information society", declared Paul Oncescu, public sector account manager within Cisco Romania.
During the guarantee period, Intrarom has provided support for the new facilities implemented in the system, granting benefits to users and allowing a good adjustment to the new solution implemented.
“We are pleased that Intrarom has supplied the Unified Communications solution within ANCOM, by which one of the first implementation processes in Romania of the Cisco collaborative Meeting Place series was completed, aside from providing modern VoIP technology communications. This component provides the necessary tools for carrying out audio or video conferences and allows the efficient exchange of documents within the institution, contributing to the improvement of the information flow and to the reduction of operating costs. Whereas the beneficiary of the project represents the institution regulating the telecommunication activities in Romania, we think that Intrarom has proved once more its professionalism, acquiring a new prestigious reference”, concluded Ovidiu Driga, project manager within Intrarom.

Intrarom-Unicredit Leasing, a success story
June, 15 2008
Integrated communications refresh business
e-Finance magazine, June, Section: Cover Story, Cristian Pavel
There are several examples from real economy that prove that the viable technological solutions, professionally implemented in the financial-banking structures, lead to the estimated results. A case study in this category is the collaboration between Intrarom, a well-known IT&C solution, products and service provider and Unicredit Leasing, one of the redoubtable competitors on the specialized Romanian market.
«We started with an in-house communication infrastructure house», declared for «e-Finance» Lucian Rahliţchi, the IT Manager of Unicredit Leasing Romania. Initially, the company did not have a large size, but as its territorial extension was increasingly dynamic, the technical department was confronted by more and more communication problems. «We have found for a while an efficient and cheap solution: we have resorted to the services of an important data carrier, Romtelecom, on which we have placed our own equipments. The solution is using PCs to the branches and to the central office, the PCs running Linux that the ones initiating, respectively closing, an encrypted communication tunnel for each branch-central office pair. An internet connection and a hub-and-spoke topology were provided. Finally, the main communication was provided by a VPN MPLS leased from Romtelecom. », stated the manager Rahliţchi.
The time has come when the network wants to benefit of the system and infrastructure that the central office in Bucharest had. The solution is not administered centralized and includes several equipments needed at the branch (Linux server, ADSL modem at branch, Linux server at the central office), firewall equipments, IPSEC tunneling, antivirus, anti-spam, deep inspection and attacks prevention etc. Instead of PCs running Linux, that was becoming hard to manage and operate set-up changes in the context of the growth of the number of branches, Unicredit Leasing decided to simplify the communication solution, by using integrated specialized security equipments.
«We have chosen Intrarom because of its strong expertise, acquired in setting up the Romtelecom network. We have found availability and professionalism at the Intrarom specialists, that after assessing the traffic between the branches and the central office, have shortly came with the proposal and with their personal solution», underlines Lucian Rahliţchi.
Actually, the firewall devices with ADSL capacities were used at branches, for the central office a pair of firewalls to reduce the waiting times and the errors, as well as for creating security areas in the entire network.
«In choosing these devices the number of Unicredit leasing devices were taken into account (30 branches in a single year), the existence of clients wanting connections in the company LAN, possibilities of increasing the number of clients and scalability of firewall & protection functions, as well as routing functions of the Juniper equipments chosen », completes Dan Russ, Deputy Director of the Telecommunication Division within Intrarom. Currently, 16 Unicredit Leasing branches, plus the central office, «incomparably» communicate, according to the beneficiary, through new integrated Intrarom solution.

October, 10-12 2006, Intrarom attended the International Broadband Conference held at WTC Bucharest
10 October 2006
As one of the most important suppliers for telecom solutions and equipment, INTRAROM attended the International Broadband Conference organised at WTC during 10-12 October; the main theme of the event was the field of Metropolitan Area Networks. Mr. Dan Russ - Deputy Director Telecom Division Intrarom introduced the presentation "Broadband over the air". Owner of one of the most important domestic production capacity and having the experience of the Reasearch&Development activity provided by Intracom-Telecom - Greece, Intrarom proved one more time on this occasion the determination to play an important role in development of broadband telecommunication in Romania. Starting from the market realities which confirm the alignment of Romania to global trends expressed by an accelerated increase of broadband services, Mr. Russ points out the advantages Broadband Wireless solutions offer to telecommunication operators which choose to provide their services using such an infrastructure. Apart from the economic reasons regarding the reduced level of investments, a shorter implementation period or a more flexible cover of the areas with a reduced density of subscribers, there are also functionalities which, by their nature, belong to radio field, namely mobility and portability. As a direct outcome of the continuous preoccupation in this high-level field, Intrarom Telecom, in the area of wireless access solution, developed the WIBAS product family - broadband radio systems, point-to-multipoint type based on IEEE 802.16 standard. Package commutation, adaptive modulation, power adaptive control, high spectral efficiency, error correction, service quality, security - all are elements that today represent compulsory requirements and strong points of WIBAS systems. After a brief description of the solution portfolio, Mr. Russ presented a study case to illustrate the wide range of the applications offered by the access radio system point-to-multipoint WiBAS PRO. "The scenario, says Mr. Russ, commences from the economic realities of the envisaged metropolitan area, takes into consideration the technical parameters of the equipment and underlines the consistent way the system WiBAS PRO may aggregate the traffic necessary to provide an impressive number of business and residential clients with a diversity of access technologies". After the theoretical background is introduced, a "Success Story" is presented. The case is based on a turn key project, Greenfield type where Intrarom specialists along with their colleagues from Intracom Greece participate to the implementation of the infrastructure of the telecommunication operator ITC, in Saudi Arabia. An important component of the project exemplified also by figures relevant to the network size, is the solution used for coverage of Ryadh with WiMAX technology, as well as the back-hauling solution based on WiBAS 2X systems.
